Getting my craft on

First of all I would like to say thank you for all the lovely comments I have gotten over my Giraffe pattern, and a welcome to new followers too.
This week I have been busy with more crochet, since getting over my morning sickness I am finally getting the creative bug back.
One of Chris's work mates had a little boy after Christmas so I made him a nappy wallet and bear rattle. These are becoming my staple for any babies being born that we know.
I actually made this skirt and shoes for my friends little girl before I got sick, I still haven't given them to her and we have seen each other quite a few times since Christmas. I fear we are both slack.
Last night I made this little turtle. He is from Amigurumi Two, so is the bear rattle above. I love this book and have made quite a few things from it.
When I was writing the pattern for the Giraffe I made another one to make sure the pattern worked. This one is for my new little one. Ruby always tells me its for the baby. We had our 18 week scan and all is well, this time we didn't find out the sex, I'm excited now as we will get a surprise at the birth.
And just because it looked cute
We baked on Monday due to the rain, I just thought this looked cute. She got the apron and hat from my Dad for Christmas, cant wait to do more baking with Ruby. And the bonus is she likes to help with the washing up.

Crochet Giraffe Pattern

Amended on 22/06/13
I have been aware that my pattern has a few incorrect increases and decreases stitches and I know it has made it a bit confusing to understand. I am so sorry for this, I made this pattern up as I went along and I had a bit of trouble with the math's (and I have never written a pattern before). I have made another little guy and I think I have been able to correct the pattern in the best possible way.
The main big changes are the head and body, with the head the decreases aren't the same as the increases as I wanted more of a flat look at the back, not round. But I think the counting now all adds up. I have only made small changes on the limbs, ears and horns. (adding or subtracting a row only)

This is now the changed pattern, and I hope it's a bit easier to understand.
Here is my pattern for my little Giraffe. This is the first crochet pattern I’ve written, so I hope that it’s ok. I’m the master of dropping or gaining stitches, so don’t worry if you do too.
Also, I’m sorry if any of the final quantities of stitches aren’t quite right, I wouldn’t worry too much if it’s 24 not 26 etc. I made him up as I went along, so I just hope he looks ok for everyone. Have fun .

PS: I am writing this pattern for free, if you are new to my little Blog maybe you could start following me. It's always nice to get new readers

Little quilts

This is another Christmas present I made, this time for my mother in law. I made her a mini quilt for mother's day and said she really liked it and would like more for their new lounge. I wanted to make four and I cut out all my fabric but unfortunately my morning sickness took over and I only managed to make two. I made them the same size but with different designs and using the same fabric's to tie them together.
I had a bit of a run with the hexagons and found myself putting them together when ever I had the chance. I want to make more now I feel better.
I wasn't happy with the joins in my border, I need to work on this. It's still a bit new to me with the cutting the right size squares and measuring. But practice makes perfect, and I will keep on trying.
I hand quilted them which makes them look a bit nicer I think.
I quite liked this one, I was inspired by a quilt in the Mollie Makes magazine, but cant remember which one
Again hand quilted. I was happy to make a bit of a dent in my stash for my presents. It also cut costs as it cost me $75 just to send 4 presents to the UK.
Next job- using all my vintage sheet stash for a quilt for Ruby's big bed. Although if you live near Sydney there is a great market coming up in Feb called the Stash and Treasure market. Full of everyone getting rid of their stash, vintage to new fabrics. Last time I filled a bag full of fabric for $25. So maybe I might wait till then to start the quilt.

Some of my handmade Christmas gifts

Before I began feeling the effects of morning sickness, I decided to begin making my Christmas presents for our a friends kids early (which is lucky as I haven't sewed in ages).
This is what I made...
I made these little guys for the boys, 3 went to the UK and the other one went to Meet me at Mikes Softies for Mirabel appeal.

I made some little shoes for our friends little girl.

And I made her some quick change trousers too, they are nice and bright and colourful,
And I gave her the little crocheted bunny I made. This was her little gift
And for our other friends baby boy I made some of these little trousers with a jersey knit fabric.
And some bibs too, I tried something different and made some bandanna bibs.
And he also got the little crocheted bear I made too.

I really love giving handmade gifts for kids, cant wait to get sewing again.

Hello 2013

Happy New Year to everyone.
Here is a selection of my favourite creations from 2012, when I look back I see I really didn't do any felt projects and did loads of crocheting.
This year I can see more baby clothes being made. My lack of posts from the past 2 months is because I have had horrible morning sickness, Yep finally pregnant with baby number 2! Seems to have taken forever but finally it happened and I am due on my Birthday (26th June). I was hoping to have anther baby before I turned 35, now I will just have to wait and see. We are very excited and cant wait to have an other little baby, I think Ruby will be a great big sister.

I haven't made any new years resolutions, I have just made them for Ruby instead. Toilet trained, big bed and no dummy and this will be for the next couple of months. I started toilet training but I had such awful morning sickness I had to abort for my own sanity, I spent all of November lying her bedroom floor or on the lounge. I thought I would get it bad again as I had it bad with Ruby too. But at least the little one is all healthy and I am starting to feel almost normal.
I do hope to blog more regularly though, well till June anyway. I want to do more great projects and maybe learn a new craft. So I cant wait for this year and all the new and exciting challenges that will be coming our way soon.
